Kouglof-Shaped Christmas Buttercake

The festive season is almost here, and we reckon it's the perfect time to blend classic baking traditions with modern convenience.

This year, we suggest ditching the complicated recipes and embrace the ease and quality of our Marubishi Buttercake Premix. We've taken the hassle out of your holiday baking so you can focus on the fun - coming up with the flavours and the decorating!

In the spirit of Christmas, we've used the Kouglof mould to transform our simple buttercake into a stunning seasonal bake.

This isn't just any paper cup alright? It's a specialized, reusable tray made in Japan using premium material. 

The IF tray moulds are constructed from heat-resistant plastic with an inner silicon coating, ensuring that your cakes are incredibly easy to remove from the tray after baking. 

Whilst offering the convenience of being disposable, this tray is durable and designed for repeated use (up to about 30 times).

Buttercake Mix: Just Add, Mix, and Bake

Our buttercake mix is designed to save you time without compromising on quality. It's a complete mix that only requires the addition of egg, butter or margarine, and evaporated milk, cutting down on preparation time.

Its carefully balanced formulation ensures you achieve the ideal buttercake texture - soft, moist, tender, and light, without the usual guesswork.

This makes the buttercake mix an ideal choice for commercial bakeries, cafés, and food manufacturers who need a dependable, repeatable product.

Preparation is minimal. Simply add a few ingredients, mix everything together, and your batter is ready to be baked. It really is as simple as that. 

This ensures professional-quality results with minimal time and effort.

Look at the texture! The way the batter holds its shape on the spatula and forms soft peaks and ribbons as it falls back into the bowl demonstrates the ideal consistency expected of a good buttercake batter.

The batter is light and smooth, promising a cake that will rise well and have moist and fine, even crumbs.

Three Festive Flavours, Endless Inspiration

To demonstrate how our Buttercake mix can be customized for Christmas, we created three Kouglof-shaped buttercakes, each using a unique flavouring and decoration, all using the same delicious base.

These are the three customized buttercake batters! The buttercake mix does not have to be just a plain cake, but rather, think of it as a versatile foundation for any flavours of your choice. 

From nutty flavors to bright and modern fruity twists, it's the perfect neutral base for any flavour you dream up.

The Santa Kouglof: Strawberry Delight 🍓

This is perfect for the festive season - a delightful, edible Santa! This charming design features a dusting of snowy icing sugar and the innovative use of cream and strawberry to create a sweet, smiling Santa Claus peeking out of the Kouglof's chimney.

This adorable creation starts with infusing the buttercake batter with our vibrant Greenhouse strawberry emulco.

This emulco not only imparts a rich strawberry flavour but also dyes the entire buttercake a beautiful pink hue, perfect for the holidays.

The Kouglof's center is piped full with house-made Strawberry Compote using fresh strawberries, adding a burst of concentrated fruit flavor to the core.

And here comes the fun part - assembling the cake and transforming the simple buttercake into a whimsical Santa cake!

A half-strawberry, cut flat-side down, is placed atop the cake, serving as Santa's body.

The highly stable Monna Lisa Topping Cream is piped directly onto the strawberry base. The excellent hold of the Monna Lisa cream ensures the decoration stays firm.

The remaining tip of a strawberry is placed atop the cream, serving as Santa's iconic hat.

The whole cake is then dusted with a snowy layer of icing sugar and finally, a tiny amount of black colouring is used to delicately draw a smiley face onto the cream, bringing the cute strawberry Santa to life!

The resulting cake is dusted with icing sugar and cleverly topped with a simple decoration of fresh cream and a strawberry to resemble a jolly Santa Claus!

Rich & Nutty: The Hazelnut Acorn 🌰

For a more sophisticated holiday flavour, we used our MLG Diamante Hazelnut Paste to flavour the buttercake batter.

The MLG Diamante Hazelnut Paste is a 100% Italian hazelnut paste that's been intensely toasted and exclusively made from hazelnuts from the Langhe in Piedmont.

We also created a luxurious Hazelnut Piping Cream by combining the same MLG Diamante Hazelnut Paste with the stability and texture of our Monna Lisa Topping Cream.

This rich Hazelnut Piping Cream is piped directly into the centre of the cooled Kouglof as shown in the left photo below. 

Monna Lisa is a sweet UHT non-dairy topping boasts exceptional stability, ensuring that the piped cream holds its shape perfectly without collapsing, even in warmer environments, making it perfect for decorations like the piping required for the detailed acorn garnish.

This paste provides an intense, authentic nuttiness that pairs wonderfully with chocolate. 

The entire buttercake is then elegantly double-coated in our MLG Delice Cover CocoaThis special cream for coating provides a finish that is smooth, bright, and perfectly well-blended, giving the cake an elegant, dark sheen that beautifully complements the nuttiness of the hazelnut.

The cake is completed with an artful rosette of the piped hazelnut cream (shaped like an acorn), fresh rosemary leaves for a pop of colour, and a hint of sweet pomegranate filling for that perfect festive finish. 

Pistachio Christmas Cheer 💚

Pistachio is a festive colour and flavour! This cake is brought to life using our premium MLG Diamante Pistachio Paste, which delivers a bright green colour and a signature, creamy nutty flavour.

Instead of leaving the traditional Kouglof-shaped cake centre empty, we piped it full of our luxurious MLG Pistachio Crock Brunella. This rich filling is enriched with real toasted pistachio pieces, giving a delightful crunch and an intense, authentic pistachio core.

That beautiful, glossy green coating you see in the right picture above is a decadent Pistachio Chocolate Glaze. This smooth glaze is made using LeBourne White Chocolate combined with the vibrant flavour of MLG Diamante Pistachio Verde.

This ensures a perfect balance of sweetness, creaminess, and nutty flavour that cascades elegantly down the fluted sides.

The cake is then finished with bright, fragrant orange peels and a cute miniature Christmas hat, making it look ready for a holiday party!
